A project for my firm, Haenglim Architecture & Engineering, for the Masan Suhyup Fisheries Wholesale Market at 186 Susan 1-gil, Masanhappo-gu, Changwon, Gyeongsangnam-do, built on reclaimed land facing the sea. Spanning a 4,535 m² site and 6,690.82 m² of total floor area (including a 170 m² wastewater treatment facility), with 4 stories above ground (maximum height 24.4 m), the building was organized around coastal and offshore wholesale market halls and a wastewater treatment facility.
I handled nearly all of the schematic design and design-development work myself. I managed the client and subcontractors and saw the project through the entire practical process, including drafting the energy-saving plan and securing the building permit and other approvals.
The reclaimed-site conditions and the wholesale market's particular program made the design process demanding, but it was a project I carried through almost entirely on my own — from schematic design to permitting — giving me a full view of the practical process end to end.
